July Yard of the Month
In top place for Yard of the Month are Graham and Alice Kennedy of 8516 Wheeling. Their home always has a neat manicured look, no matter what the season. This is the sixteenth time that the Kennedys have placed in the finals in the last two years, having placed first in June of 2012. Check out the new summer flowers in the front beds. Thank you, Kennedys, for consistently keeping your home one of the top ones in Alyson Pond.
Finishing second are Paul and Marie Stowers of 2505 Coxindale . The yard looks crisp and tidy and the splash of color by the mailbox is a welcoming touch. This is the fourth time the Stowers have finished in the finals since 2012.
Finishing third are Gina and Jonathan Kinlaw of 2905 Funster. The fresh green lawn and shrubs are contrasted by the vibrant purple of the tradescantia and yellow lantana. They are the new kids on the Yard of the Month block this year, but were a first-place finisher in June of 2012. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations to each of the homeowners for the consistent quality care they give to their homes and yards and thanks to Larry Deckard and Jamie Visocan who assisted me on the judging panel.
August Yard of the Month
Yard of the Month for August is awarded to Charles and Robin Markham of 2640 Iman Drive. Their yard is at its best in the peak of summer. The Bermuda grass lawn is a lush green carpet and the orange and yellow lantana add vibrant color. This is the second time the Markhams have placed first, having done so in September 2011.
Finishing a very close second are Bryan and Kristen Maness of 8508 Wheeling. This is their first time placing in the top three and their yard could easily get recognition for most improved. All their work last year in putting down zoysia sod has paid of with a lush carpet of lawn that invites one to nestle into the chairs under the shade of the oaks and pines. Look for more color this Fall to propel them into first…
Harrell and Susan Queen of 2816 Coxindale finished third. This is the fifth time the Queens have placed in the finals. They finished second in November of 2012 and first in January of this year and second the last two months. It seems that their yard always looks perfectly maintained.
Congratulations to each of the homeowners and thanks to Jamie Visocan and Larry Deckard who served with me on the judging panel.

June Yard of the Month

Moving into second place are second are Harrell and Susan Queen of 2816 Coxindale.
This is the third time the Queens have placed in the finals. They finished second in November of 2012 and first in January of this year. It seems that their yard always looks perfectly maintained.
The Kennedys are again a contender, and one look makes it easy to see why they are always in the running. One of Graham’s friends commented that “he thinks Graham combs the grass to be sure all the blades line up.”
Congratulations to each of the homeowners and thanks to Jen Magee and Larry Deckard who served with me on the judging panel.
November Yard of the Month
We have a winner for Yard of the Month! Taking top prize for November are Michael and Tracey Patnesky of 8508 Bluebill. Coming in a close second was Paul and Marie Stowers of 2505 Coxindale and Jonathan and Gina Kinlaw of 2905 Funster finished third. As the neighborhood steadily improves in appearance, it is getting more and more difficult to pick a winner. Said panelist Bill Pappas, “you could have a had a couple on Bluebill alone!”
So we are happy to announce the second and third place finishers and commend the neighborhood overall as well.
Judging was based on five criteria: a healthy green lawn, properly pruned trees and shrubs, mulched and weed-free beds, seasonal color in flowers and foliage and a clean, clutter-free general appearance.
Thank you to our judging panel — Jennifer Magee, Bill Pappas and Mimi Raub and congratulations to the Patnesky household for a job well done.

New non-smoking policy for Alyson Pond pool effective 7/3/2010
In response to health-related concerns brought to the board by homeowners, the board voted this past week to make the Alyson Pond pool non-smoking within the pool enclosure.
This move will make Alyson Pond consistent with other neighborhood community pools and Raleigh city pools, and is designed to ensure that our community resources remain a safe and welcoming place for all residents.
Effective Saturday, 7/3/2010, smoking will not be allowed within the pool enclosure. We will be making cigarette receptacles available for those who choose to smoke outside the enclosure.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in adhering to this new policy, and please feel free to let us know of any questions or comments at info@alysonpond.com.
